About Us
In the year 1988, the Pay Research Bureau published its report on review of PAY AND GRADING STRUCTURES AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR.

In order to safeguard the interests and to promote the status of engineering profession, and also to enable excellence in the delivery of effective engineering services in the public sector, the need to form an association was strongly felt.

The Union of Professional Engineers was created, which re-grouped engineers employed by the Government of Mauritius, including para-statal bodies. Given the specificity of Engineers in the public service, shortly afterwards the Government Professional Engineers' Association was created.

It can be said with much pride that the Association has played a major role in re-vitalizing the status of Engineers and most of its representations to the Government have been given due attention.

In the GPEA, the Engineers now have an adequate structure whereby they can exercise their rights to negotiate for better and better working conditions.

Objectives
The objects of the Union shall be :
(a) To regulate relations and settle disputes by conciliatory methods whenever possible between the members and their employers and, whenever necessary, between the members and other workers;
(b) To obtain and maintain fair and reasonable rates of remuneration hours of work and other conditions of service and generally to protect the interest of its members;
(c) To maintain funds for these purposes and for the purpose of protecting the rights of members in relation to their contract of employment;
(d) To co-operate with other trade unions having for one of their objects the promotion of the interests of workmen within the scope of the Industrial Relations Act, 1973;
(e) To promote the image of Engineers.
